Hyderabad: The ongoing celebrations in Telangana for the flower festival Bathukamma are being celebrated in a big way with women from all walks of life participating in the festivities. Every year women would make the flower pot using locally available flowers and after the prayers and celebrations, the pots are immersed in water bodies. However, this year, the Telangana government has taken the initiative to make the event more eco-friendly. The idea is to make the festival more eco-friendly by encouraging women to make the flower pots with clay and not with thermocol. The government officials have been educating the women to make flower pots out of clay and not with thermocol. They have also provided clay pots to women in villages and towns. The government will also sponsor prizes for women making clay pots. The officials have also taken measures to ensure that the flower pots made out of thermocol and other materials are not immersed in water bodies. The move is being taken to make the festival more eco-friendly.
